J Galley Artisan Findings is an elegant gift store located in Ranch Santa Fe, California. After opening in April of 2008, J Gallery became the gift store of choice of the Rancho Santa Fe area. Sales were good for being a new store and customer traffic flowed steadily.

At the beginning of 2009 when the recesion hit, sales plummeted. There were no new competing stores or any changes to the way J Gallery did business. Simply put, people were not spending as much anymore as a result of the recession.

 

The Challenges
J Gallery purchased our 2 Hour Business-Boosting Package and from then it was clear that we had a few challenges to overcome. The first challenge was that there was not much of a budget in which to advertise or promote J Gallery. The second challenge was, how to entice customers into the store when people weren’t spending money on gifts. The third challenge was prompting people to actually spend money when they did come into the store.


Our Recommendations
After a two hour consultation, we determined that we had to go for the “lowest hanging fruit first”. In other words, we had to promote the store with existing and past customers instead of the difficult task of attracting new clients. Amongst many recommendations, one of our first was to build customer loyalty as quickly as possible. We decided to give every customer a little inexpensive gift (without any strings attached) when they came into the store, and also give them a compelling reason to come back into the store—this worked beautifully.

In addition, we recommended that the interior of the store be brightened with new wall colors, along with rearranging products; giving the custom-blended perfume section a new and fresh look. We helped with ongoing marketing recommendations on a weekly basis, and created affordable marketing materials that would help promote these marketing efforts. Most importantly, we made tracking recommendations so that we could understand what efforts were working and what were not.


Increased sales of 220%

During four months of ongoing consulting, in-store revamping and customer loyalty building, sales increased by 120% after the third month, and 220% in the fourth month (compared to the same month last year).
